Leeds: Chris Denham
Goodbye Summer, Hello September!! There’s something quite refreshing about September. Maybe it’s that most of us have had some form of holiday and are feeling up for getting busy again. Maybe its that secretly we all prefer the cooler weather. Personally I like it because unlike any other month you feel like you have everything ahead of you!
For me, September is like the real new year. In fact if September and January got into a fight over the ownership rights for a New Year, September would win by a knockout!
January’s over-rated. We enter the year with a sense of delusion as we force ourselves to make stupid resolutions that are really only a way of relieving the guilt of things we haven’t yet done. We still feel bloated from Christmas and to make matters worse we have a house full of half-useful items, which we proceed to spend the rest of the month trying to find a home for.
September on the other hand comes straight after a season of fun family garden adventures and burnt offerings on the BBQ. Even if it did rain a bit, most of us found ourselves on some windy beach somewhere breathing in some fresh air or walking across a few grassy knolls with a packed lunch, a flask of warm tea and a penguin (the biscuit kind that is... not the flightless bird type).
September is always the start of something new. There’s always some re-launch of what’s been before but with a whole new sense of expectation and enjoyment. Bit like the annual re-appearance of the Creme Egg. We all wondered where it had gone but seem so glad to once again see it’s friendly face in our lives.
This September is no exception. In fact I have to admit I think this September is probably one of the best yet. There’s so much coming up at Hope City Leeds that it’s really hard to fathom where we may find ourselves going this next few months. By Christmas we’ll have packed out double services, moved into a 400 seater auditorium, seen more students attending than ever before, launched the all singing and dancing Night of Honour and celebrated Christmas bigger than ever! Over the next few months we’re going to jam more excitement, expectation and God-filled moments into our lives than you ever could have imagined!
So what will it be for you? A damp squid of a month when you think “hey ho, back to work I go” or will it be “On your marks, get set.... Here we GO!”
Don’t miss this next season in the life of Hope City Leeds. It’s going to be the best ever and it all starts Sunday 5th as we kick off our Double Services at 9:15am and 11:00am. Be there and start the real year with a bang!
Bless ya!
