Sheffield: Louise Davies
What is your favourite song ever? Are you a secret ABBA fan singing "Dancing Queen" in the mirror with your pretend microphone hairbrush? Are you blasting out Bon Jovi's "Living on a Prayer" in the shower? Here's my guilty pleasure …
Oh yes, my top tune is the one, the only, the ultimate Carly Simon classic "You're So Vain". Whenever this ditty hits the radio, I can't help myself. The diva rises up and I sing my little heart out. The irony of this secret is that I am very vain. How do I know that I am vain? Here's a test, try it out with me:
1. Have you ever Googled yourself?
2. Do you look at yourself as you pass shop windows?
3. Is your Facebook profile picture black and white?
If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions then you are vain and you can be part of my "I'm So Vain" club. Within each of us there is a desire to be important, however, the Bible tells us that if we want to be significant then we need to serve others.
At Hope City, week in week out, we give you the opportunity to do just that. It's amazing! Whether it is serving coffee, looking after children, directing cars in the car park, there are literally hundreds of people that go out of their way to help people and build God's House. Each one of us has a part to play and we would love for you to be involved.
On Wednesday 8th September, 7:30pm, at the Megacentre, we have the annual Hope City Volunteer Awards. On this special night we will be honouring the people who tirelessly pour their lives into this place. If you are on a team at Hope City this is a must. If you are interested in joining a team, why not pop along and find out how you can make a difference too.
Speaking of honour, why not nominate your Sheffield Champion for Sheffield's Night of Honour. Our very own awards ceremony celebrates the unsung heroes of the city. This year, Sheffield's Night of Honour will be held at the City Hall on Friday 26th November, 7pm. Why not shine the spotlight on your family, friends and colleagues and join the feel-good extravaganza of the year!
A big hello to all our students who have returned after the holidays. It's great to have you back. We really missed you! We have got a jam-packed Freshers lined up for you. Don't forget to check out Campus Life on Wednesday 29th September. You are gonna love it! I'm really looking forward to see you all at our fantastic 9:15am Early Bird Service, 11am Big Family Service and 6pm Sunday Night Live. Amazing worship, yummy Starbucks and an inspirational message that will blow your socks off! See you on Sunday!
